Salter MiBody Analyser Scales Review On this page, you'll find a review of Salter's MiBody scales - the scales with a USB socket so you can track your health on a PC A set of bathroom scales for the 21st century. For a while, it's been possible to buy scales that can record your weight, or present you with your BMI (Body Mass Index), but these scales from Salter offer a much more sophisticated level of information.
If you're serious about tracking your weight and fitness (perhaps for yet another diet.), then these could be for you. The Salter MiBody is comprehensive body analyser that will determine your weight, body fat, body water, muscle mass, visceral fat, BMI and BMR, giving you a more accurate reading of your overall health and fitness than standard scales. The MiBody can 'remember' up to 12 people, and can store up to 30 readings per person. OK - so very clever, but how useful is that information? The data recorded only really becomes useful when you transfer the data to a computer. Which is a piece of low-calorie cake. Deals on the Salter MiBody: Ordering online can save you cash.
Here are some online stockists:. Salter MiBody Review Our podcast team recently reviewed the Salter MiBody scales. If you're interested in hearing their review, take a listen to.
The Salter MiBody is made from toughened safety glass, this is a stylish black set of scales with Stainless Steel contacts and a 2 inch LCD 2in dot matrix display. The first time you use the scales, you have to enter in your age, gender and height, which are then used for the calculations. Weighing yourself with the scales is pretty straightforward. You wake the MiBody up from standby by pressing down on it. Then, use the up/down arrows to select your profile from one of the 12 memories. Step on the scales when indicated, and wait for around 10 seconds, while the MiBody does its stuff.
You have to be barefoot, as the MiBody sends tiny electrical pulses into you to determine your body's fat and water content (you won't feel these, by the way!) When we tested the scales, we did occasionally see 'Err' appear, but usually this went away on the second try - perhaps we moved at the wrong moment, or weren't square on the metal contacts. Here's what the scales monitor:. Body fat (as a percentage). Body water content (your body water, as a percentage). Muscle mass (percentage of your body's muscle or lean tissue),. Visceral fat (the fat surrounding your key organs).
Body Mass Index (to identify the healthy weight for your height). BMR (Basal Metabolic Rate) Calories your body burns at rest Once you're happy that your results have been recorded, the clever bit comes in. The MiBody is supplied with a CD and a USB memory stick. Plug the memory stick into the side of the scales, and press the USB button. The stored data on the MiBody is transferred from the scales to the memory stick, and you can then plug the stick into a PC and analyse readings using the supplied Salter MiBody software. 12 user memory. Easy to read LCD display. Capacity: 200kg / 31st 6lb. 6 x AA batteries (included) Summary: A well-made set of scales that can provide a high level of detail on your weight, body mass index and a range of other metrics. Works well, although the buttons seem a little unresponsive sometimes, and the LCD display could be a little brighter. We're happy to recommend this.

I bought this item and recieved it yesterday fully aware of the negative reviews it has recieved due to the usb function not working. As I suspected it works fine and the reviewers not getting it to work probably aren't that clued up on PC's.
Download and install software, 2. Now on scales set the user to P01-P04 not P-00 on the scales and insert your data about yourself(height age etc)P-00 is a guest one and won't be recorded on the software. If you choose P-01 plug a usb drive in the back of the scales and press usb on the scales, wait for the data to transfer and take to pc, 4.
Insert pen drive and then close the dialogue box that pops up, 5. Now open the software and select user 1, 6.
Now isert a user name then a password and select ok, another box will pop up saying something won't be done or something but just click ok, I think it askes to confirm the password then the software will open. On software screen click usb at top right and your data will import. Software was a bit fiddly to set up as you can see but it works perfectly and the scales are easy to read, so overall I am very pleased with them. These scales are sold on the gimmick that you can download all your personal data onto the supplied software and actively monitor your progress. Well that would be nice if you could actually get said software to import the data from the USB! It took me approximately 10 attempts to get the data from the scales onto the USB, and this was only achieved by deleting all other data I had on the USB. It then flashed a few dashes across the display and went back to the time, thus indicating the data had downloaded.
Excited about seeing my stats on the software I rushed downstairs for the tenth time this morning and plugged it into the USB port on my PC. Do you wish to import?' I clicked 'Yes', almost unable to contain my excitement. The software then rudely informed me with a big.ding. 'No data found' So I navigated through Windows Explorer into my USB stick only to find that there was no longer a file on the USB stick. I went back upstairs, plugged it back into the scales, it allegedly downloaded the data, ran back downstairs for the eleventh time, plugged it in, 'No data found'. I've emailed Salter looking for a solution.
Initially I was going to ask them to replace them with the more recent Mibody 9119, but after reading the reviews for those, I don't think I'll bother, as they sound even worse! These are going back to the shop tomorrow! I bought this item and recieved it yesterday fully aware of the negative reviews it has recieved due to the usb function not working. These are going back to the shop tomorrow! The last set of scales took a ridiculous 6 OR 8 AA batteries and they didn't even last.
This gets 1 Star because it opted for a 9v battery offering very good battery life. Like many I found out the hard way that you could only use a vintage USB drive with the scales. Thankfully the 1 part of the previous scales I kept was a 64mb circa 1872 usb drive and therefore worked. Now I say worked. Maybe I've exaggerated. It worked a few times.
Over recent months I've recorded my weight etc a few times. When I came to transfer the details the USB flashed away merrily, all looked good. I came to the Software which prompted me for a Username and Password.
A prompt with no option to reset, no option for a password reminder. It appears all historic data is now locked away. I finally found a way a access the data on the USB only to find it had transferred nothing.
I will purchase some ANT compliant scales and use them with my Samsung Galaxy in future. No more wasting money on these MiBody products until they release something robust, with proper software, proper battery life that is not 10 years out of date. Same problem with my scales - got it to work once when first got scales.
Now not writing to usb at all and 3 months of data lost. Scales set up to delete file as soon as read so once lost that it - all gone, not even to the recycle bin.
Also software that comes with package is very poor - can't extend data on graphs past 90 days and loves to say error a lot so very annoying. I have contacted Salter to see if they can do something. Will repost if have a result. I will also try the advice from previous reviewers above and use 'special usb' just for the scales. I bought one of these from Argos, followed the (non-printed grr) instructions to the letter, but no matter what I do it never writes anything to the USB drive.
It is always completely blank. Apparently it is supposed to write to a file called BODYDATA.TXT or something. Took it back for a replacement, same result. The only explanations I can think of are:. I've been really unlucky and got two faulty scales.
It only works with really old (USB 1?) memory sticks. The instructions are really badly written and I'm missing some step. Salter were unhelpful. Just got this scale unpacked and set-up.
Followed each instruction to the letter. The scale simply does not write anything to the USB. The scale itself works fine, giving measurements. As for the USB functions, not so much. After installing the PC software and creating 3 user profiles, I then set up each user on the scale. Each of us selected our profile (1 - 3) and pressed the start button to commence the procedure.
It successfully measured our info. So I proceeded by inserting the USB drive and pressing the 'USB' button. I could hear the scale making subtle yet repetitive computing noises as if unable to complete the procedure (just a thought?). After it went back to showing the clock I remove the USB drive. I opened the MiBody software, chose a profile, entered the password, went to the home screen, inserted the USB drive and BOOM.
No window offering to import data. No file on the empty USB drive. The 'USB' button on the PC software gives and error that says it cannot find any data.
I repeated this process multiple times. Anyway, all is not lost. The scale still gives readings and I can still record my results manually. I'll just make my own charts and graphs and use the charts they provided in the electronic manual.
